Mr & Mrs Fishy

Jayden finally got his pets last night. He got 2 gold fish and their names are Mr & Mrs Fishy. When we were in Pets Mart buying the fish he was so excited. When they put them in the plastic bag he wanted to hold them and when I told him that I’d prefer to hold them so they don’t get dropped he actually rubbed his face up against the bag. I guess it’s love.

We set the fish tank up in his room. I’m crossing my fingers that all goes well and that he doesn’t put random things in their cool little tank, or worse… somehow knock the tank over. I’m happy that he finally has a pet that won’t attack him or one that doesn’t get cravings for pies.

Ella has had a bit of a determined eye when she sees them. I wonder if she’s contemplating on how she can get them in her mouth since that’s where EVERYTHING belongs.

MAJOR Mom Brag!

When Jayden was younger and he’d see a piano he wasn’t one to go and bang on it. He tried to position his fingers on it and even tried to read the music. Unfortunately, living in Sacramento I never had time for anything let alone piano lessons. I always knew in my heart that this little boy had something really special about him.

Starting in March of this year I started taking Jayden up to the Bishop’s house to get piano lessons from his daughter. Within just 3 months Jayden has shocked us all. First let clarify that Jayden has energy like none other! The minute we walk through those doors for some reason he thinks it’s time to play around, joke around and you’d think by the way he was acting that he wasn’t getting anything that she was saying.

If she points to a key Jayden knows exactly what that key is. He has C Chord memorized and 1 Chord memorized and she even did a duet with him yesterday. If he calms down enough to play a song for her it’s perfect. When he’s clapping and counting the notes his voice is going with the tune of the song. This has always blown me away and I asked her yesterday if this was normal. Her eyes got big and she shook her head and told me that Jayden is at the same level as some of her girls that she’s been teaching for 2 years.

He’s only 6 years old. Can you imagine what he’s going to sound like when he’s older. He is a talented little boy and something in me always told me this. I’m glad we got him into lessons when he was younger.

On another brag note….. Thursdays in Jayden’s class is library day. Jayden got a Dora book and read the entire thing to me with VERY minimal help!! Way to go, Bubby!!!!!

It was a total Southwest Airlines moment….

You know those moments when your kid says something that makes you want to crawl into a hole and never come out? This was a total “Need to get away” moment that Southwest Airlines advertises for.

A couple of years ago we were at my mom’s house when some of my sister’s guy friends showed up. One of her friends was a relatively large guy. Jayden walked up to him and tapped him on his belly and said, “Did you eat all the foods.”

I so wish I wasn’t standing there for that moment, but then again it’s something that we all still laugh about.

Jayden and Pets

On Friday we bought a little aquarium kit for Jayden. He wants a pet. I’m just not a pet kind of person. We’ve had some pretty interesting episodes with pets, and it just doesn’t work in this house. Here’s a little background on our pets…..

Molly was our kitty. She was a tuxedo cat and we found her at the bottom of our stairs at our apartment building. I fell in love with her, so we ended up keeping her. Little did I know that I was inviting the spawn of Satan into our home. This little ball of fur kitty made her way into our home and then into our hearts. Then she turned. I was scared to death of her, and I would have to shut my door at night to keep her out of my room. It brought her great pleasure in attacking my face while I slept. Jayden still has scratch marks on his arm from her.

There is one image that will forever be embedded in my mind. Jayden was only 2, actually probably even younger. He got ahold of Molly’s tail and took off running. He was doing laps around the couch and Molly was flying behind him. I started to chase him to save the poor little demon, but I couldn’t stop laughing and Jayden probably got a good 10 laps around the couch in. We ended up giving Molly to an old friend of mine, and Molly ended up in the pound.

My friend had told me that Molly was pregnant when the pound picked her up, and a couple weeks after that we went to the pound to see if we could find a puppy. We walked past the cats and there was Molly and her litter. There was no mistaking that it was her, she still had the same evil eyes staring into my soul.

Then we got Baxter. Baxter was a beagle and was such a sweet, friendly dog. I really did love that boy! One day I was in the shower and when I came out into the living room Jayden was watching cartoons and Baxter was nowhere to be found. I finally asked Jayden and he told me, “Baxter wanted to buy a pie, so I let him out to go to the store.” We never saw Baxter again.

Jayden doesn’t have a very good track record with pets, so hopefully we can’t do any wrong in going with fish. There’s not much he can do to them, right?

Our Friday Family Project

Yesterday was an In-service day at Jayden’s school so that means NO SCHOOL! I wanted to do something special with him so we out to lunch together and talked about what fun project we could do together. We decided to surprise Daddy at work and went to go and buy some planting stuff. Jayden had given me some flowers for Mother’s Day and I thought it would be fun to repot them. So off to Home Depot we went. The store that I think almost everyone can get lost in and leave with an empty bank account. Target’s a little like that as well – might even be a little worse for me.

So, we ended up buying a new hose w/a sprayer on it, some cute little Terracotta pots with turtles on them. We planted tomatoes & strawberries in those. I kill plants. I’ve never had a green thumb, but I really want to try here. I want to have a garden and be like all the other Mormons out there! One of the plants that I killed, which is also one my husband tried so hard to keep alive, was planted in a pretty little pot. So we ripped the plant out and planted the flowers that Jayden gave me for Mother’s Day. He loved it! Gino got home in time to help us with our project, so it became a family project…. nothing’s better than that!

I Guess American Idol is out

Jay has crushed my dreams of going to try out for American Idol next year. I’m always singing to him. Even if I’m telling him to brush his teeth – I somehow will fen dangle a song about it. Yesterday I was singing to him telling him his sandwich was ready and here’s how it all busted down……………

Me (Singing Loudly) Jaaaaayyyyyyden, come eat your sandwich ~ oh Jaaaaayyyyyden it’s ready!

Jayden: OMG, Dad! That is the most terrible noise I’ve ever heard.

Gino: Extreme laughter, because I know that they share an opinion on this matter.

Oh well, Ella still enjoys it.

Is "Jay" really Chinese?

If you ask my vibrant son if he’s Mexican he says, “NO! I’m Chinese.” This has been going on for a while now. He thinks Chinese people speak Spanish. Well, a memory has struck me about a time when Jayden was about 2 years old. We were watching that show Last Comic Standing – which I never really liked. A Chinese guy was on there doing his stand up and when this guy busted out some Chinese Jayden was hysterically laughing. It was like he knew what this dude was talking about. When the white people came back on speaking clear English Jayden was no longer interested.

So, I think it’s time for Gino and Jayden to take a paternity test, because they may look like identical twins, but I’ve come to the conclusion that Jayden is indeed Chinese.

His Name is Jay

I really think I got slammed in the gut today after I heard Jayden talking to the gas station attendant today. We pulled up to fill up the car and the weather was absolutely beautiful, so we had all the windows down. “John” the attendant was starting to fill up our gas and Jayden asks what his name was. When “John” asked Jayden was his name was Jayden replied with “My name is Jay.”

We took off and I thought I’d ask about this new profound name that my son is now claiming. Jayden says, “Yeah, my name is Jay. You spell it Jay.” Can you please tell me what happened to Bubby? How about J.J.? Or better yet, JAYDEN?!?! This is just another milestone that screams that he’s no longer a baby anymore. He’s building his own identity, which I no longer have a say on. So now, I guess we call him Jay. His Great-Great Grandpa Reese’s name was Jay and he has a Great-Great uncle named Jay. I guess he’s jumping on the Jay clan everyone.

Mother’s Day

I’ll guess I’ll start with Mother’s Day. This Mother’s Day was nice. My in-laws were up visiting. We went to church and went out for pizza and then for dinner we got take out Applebee’s. Jayden did some pretty special things for me. I’m looking for my camera (yes, panic is flowing through my body as we speak over not being able to find it) and then I’m going to take pictures of what he did for me and upload them.

When we were at church I glanced over at Jayden and he looked up at me and I said, “I love you.” and he says, “I love you too, Mom, Happy Mother’s Day.” The sincerity in his voice gave me chills. He is so special to me. I love that little boy so much. I can’t ever imagine my little guy growing up, but it’s happening right before my eyes. I’m so proud that to be his mom. I’m so proud of what a wonderful big brother he is. He’s so concerned about Ella’s safety all the time. He’s always making sure she’s going to be okay. It just puts a smile on my face.

Yesterday I passed my kidney stone!!! YAY! I’m so excited to finally have that thing out. I’m feeling so much better.

Blessing Weekend

We had an amazing weekend. Close to a year ago I met a girl named Jen. I met her on a message board that I used to be a part of and we became very close. She’s LDS and actually is why I am back in church. This past weekend her and her husband, David, and their adorable puppy, Lily, drove for 6 hours to come and visit us. It was the first time that we got to meet each other after chatting endless hours online and through text messaging. We had the honor of having her husband bless Ella & Jayden in church on Sunday. The blessings were so special. Gino got to hold Ella while the circle went around them. Ella didn’t scream, which I expected her to do. Jayden’s blessing was done after Sacrament in the Bishop’s office. He was such a little man. I’m really happy that he got blessed, even though it wasn’t until he was 6. I think it’s important.
