I am a girl that gets extremely passionate about things. For instance…. I love photography, I love accounting, I love selling Wildtree, I love my newest adventure of owning my very own international telecommunications company, I love blogging, I love Tweeting, I love digital scrapbooking, I love photo editing and my list could go on and on and on.
So what I need to figure out is how can I enjoy everything and still have time for me, my family, my husband…. there has to be a way!
I need advice today instead of giving advice.
Do you have a million + things you love to do? How do you manage your time wisely? I think my biggest problem in the world is managing my time, and I want to know what works for others. Sorry that I’m not sharing a tip this week, but I could really use some advice.
There actually are people this week giving advice, and some great advice at that! Just head over to {We are THAT Family} and grab a hot drink, and get ready to do some reading!!
I have no advice to give! I feel like I hardly have enough time to get anything done. Working full-time sucks, so for me–the house cleaning has to come last so that my parenting time with Andrew doesn't suffer. I get up on Saturday mornings and clean.
I love my photography stuff too, and it seems it goes in spurts. Sometimes I'm really ambitious; other times I don't have a ton of drive. I am doing Project 365–I started at the beginning of March. Each day for every day of the year, take one photo. 🙂 It's a simple concept, but sometimes it's hard to come up with inspiration–I don't want to do something I've already done.
Family is obviously important. I have been told to focus on the activities that will produce an income. In my case, I too love photography and digital scrapbooking. I recently ditched my candle business to focus on the first two. So once my children are off to school, I focus those items on my to do list that will bring me an income, contacting potential clients, following up with clients, etc. I tend to let the housework fall to the bottom of my list as it is not an absolute necessity to have a spotless house.
Well, first, full disclosure: my youngest is 19, so I don't have littles to watch over. And my outside-the-home job is very part time (only 15 hrs. a week and five minutes from home!)
But I'm also one that has 17,000 projects and passions! The biggest thing to remember is that you can't do every thing, every day!
Sometimes, I multi-task and do just fine. Sometimes, I'm folding laundry and the bacon is burning because I forgot about it. What I find is best for me is two things: lists (I like a site called "My Ta-Da Lists" which is free) and my kitchen timer.
No, I don't set the timer for time with my husband or kids! I set it for projects or for cleaning. I don't like to do housework, but I can stand anything for half an hour. Or I try to tell myself I will concentrate on one thing–like sewing or crocheting–for an hour. If I concentrate on one thing rather than trying to do 8 things at once, I tend to get a lot more done!
Knowing what's for dinner is another great help. Nobody says you have to do it all in half an hour. I prep throughout the day–or even days ahead–whenever I have a moment. "Down Time" on the computer is a good time to peel cucumbers or brown meat. Knowing all you have to do is thrown some sauce on meat that's already browned and boil up spaghetti makes life a lot easier.
LOL, my word verification is "barmaria." Bar Maria should come to all our homes and make us a round of pina coladas!
Hey Amanda! I've used a Franklin Planner System for years (since high school) and absolutely love it!!! Also, I just wrote a post not to long ago on holiday planning…come check it out OR just stop by my blog and say hi! 🙂
